William Yancy, MD MPH 

Dr. Yancy, a general internist, is a Research Scientist in the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care and a Staff Physician in Ambulatory Care at the Durham VA Medical Center.  He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Duke University. He has research interests in the impact of obesity on health and health care, and in weight loss interventions used in primary care. His prior work has examined the relationship between obesity and use of clinical services. He has also performed a number of trials investigating the effects of various dietary and weight loss approaches on body weight, cardiovascular risk, and diabetes.

He has been the PI of a VA-funded study investigating the impact of diet preference on weight loss success; a multiple PI (with Dr. C. Voils) on a VA-funded trial to evaluate the impact of genetic testing for type 2 diabetes on health behaviors; a multiple PI (with Dr. Voils) on an NIH-funded study that aims to improve the assessment of blood pressure medication adherence; and a multiple PI (with Dr. Voils) on a VA-funded trial to test a theoretically-derived counseling intervention to enhance weight loss maintenance.
