WHY VA?

Initially, I chose to work in VA because there seemed to be great potential that research findings could improve Veteran health and health care because we work within the VA health system and can communicate directly with leaders of clinical operations.  Over time, I came to appreciate the tremendous data assets that are available on millions of people over many years, which enables VA researchers to conduct analyses that simply aren’t possible in any other health system in the United States.  Finally, the strong and supportive community of VA researchers locally and nationally make it very easy to stay in VA.

EDUCATION:

  • PhD in Health Services Research. University of Minnesota, 1998
  • BSFS, Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, 1991

VA RESEARCH INTERESTS:

  • Long-term outcomes of bariatric surgery
  • Outcomes research of complex and multimorbid patients
  • Causal inference in non-randomized studies
