Career Development Award (CDA)
The Durham HSR&D Center of Innovation has an excellent history of supporting promising junior investigators through the VA Research Career Development Award program (RCD). The RCD provides funding for junior PhD- and MD-trained investigators to support their research at a very critical stage, and also for senior PhD-trained investigators (through the Research Career Scientist Award) to recognize VA health services researchers who are national and international leaders in their field.
The goal of the RCD for junior investigators is to continue to make VA a first-choice for talented MD-trained and PhD-trained post-docs interested in becoming national leaders in health services research within a supportive, Veteran-focused clinical and mentoring environment. As shown below, many of the Durham HSR&D RCD awardees have become clinical champions and research leaders as principal investigators and mentors. This list does not include non-VA funded career awards.
